Hey pro’s I really your need help!
What’s the best way to prep cedar clapboard prior to butting it up?
I plan to pre prime all six sides with oil based primer and coat the cut ends as I go. As well as get one coat of solid color stain on the face and bottom edge before installation.
I have been told that I should remove the mill glaze that the planer leaves behind by sanding first to get the best adhesion.
This all sounds like a lot of work to go through but I’m after the longest lasting finish I can get. I’m willing to put the time in but only if it’s truly worth it.
Is this nonsense or what?
Also, who makes the best and longest lasting oil based primer & water based solid color stain? The body of the house will be light yellow and the trim white, if this helps.
