Howdy,
First post in about 10 years…has it been so long!
2 questions:
> I want to upgrade my Porter Cable lam. trimmer to a the Bosch Colt. The P/C is in great shape and sells for $140+/-? I was thinking of selling $50…?
> The reason I am upgrading is this…http://www.conservationtechnology.com/downloads/Weatherseals.pdf
My father uses this and it is awesome. It only runs with a Bosch motor though…my second question is; has anybody else used this adapter and what do you think of the Bosch compared to the P/C?
Thanks and good to be back~

I have that very tool, not right here in front of me, it's on the job.
I don't think the motor body is the same as the colt trimmer, more like an angle grinder body..slimmer than a lam trimmer.
I noticed ( after I played with it) the supplied base wasn't letting the bit be centered in the VEE..OK for all the same direction grooveing ( with the straight bit) but if you need to change directions and comeback into a sill corner, the grooves don't line up..DOH!
I know they had an older model and a newer model. I have the newer one. I have not used the slot cutters, but am certain a regulat trim router or rotozip would work. As a matter of fact I have a roto zip rigged to use free hand be/c I am doing arched top casements and was unsure if teh special VEE base would work, but it did, just takes some serious concentration and care.
The bits ARE not standard as I had thought, and the depth adjuster is kinda finicky, but all in all, I like haveing the tool that was designed to do the job,,vs. cludging up a sloppy secondary plan of attack.
I'd get the whole deal from them, nice case, wrenches, and a good set up..tomorrow I'll try to get some pics of what I do to fix the off center problem, probably just shim one side with a strip of plastic or some thing like that.

Thanks for the response!Sounds like I should hold on to my lam trimmer and just buy this thing as is, huh? The price is steep, but it sounds like the only thing out there and I know the results are the best. I will call them on Monday and see what they say as far as the off center issue....that sort of defeats the purpose if it doesn't fit in the corner of the jamb and stop though. I am interested in your modification!Have you used their door sweep weatherstrip? I have a door that I want to seal up tight for a good customer and thought I might try it. I am ordering all this other stuff anyway...your thoughts?
Not Duane, but I use their products on all my doors and windows. The sweep has a couple of configurations that I've used successfully.
In fact, I use their sweep for my deuce-and-a-half windshield wipers. Lasts incredibly long, works better than military issue.
Excellent products.
You haven't been around, check out some doors...PAHS works. Bury it.
I have yet to get the door stuff, we're restoring a 1915 , 9000SQFT home, and thus far still doing windows and jamb stuff.
The base does fit the corner ok, the problem is when you turn it around and come down the jamb to the floor, vs. going up toward the head, the grooves won't meet up exactly and the weather strip then has a kink in it, I've only been able to do one trial run with it so far, so I'll dink with it when I get back there tomorrow ( Irebuild the windos and doors at my shop, then fix teh jambs and re install) and let yaknow what I come up with.
Yeah, the damm thing is pricey , but worth it in the long run.
I'll be getting the sweeps and stuff as we get to it. Great company and good stuff.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
