Don't do business with neighbors.

Thanx for responding all. Thing is, I'm not a pro, but a DIY'er, and I don't remember how long it took me. I was thinking about 3x the cost of materials for the total charge. I have a feeling when I tell them the cost, they're going to drop the matter. They called a couple of fence companies to do the work, but the companies wouldn't even provide an estimate. Henri's probably right. I'll try to get the husband to be a DIY'er and just give free advice.
*I have hard time getting animal control to do something about people letting their rhinos roam around unleashed.

Neighbors want me to build a fence for them like the one I built for myself. It cost about $1000 in materials for 60 feet. How should I calculate labor costs?
The posts are PT 6x6's, 6 feet down, 8 feet high. Pickets are made from 8 foot PT clear decking, spear-point tops, rounded-over edges, swagged between posts. The stringers are 2x6's lapped in the posts on each end with dovetail laps. Finished with opaque stain. SS screws throughout. Picture below.
*How long did it take to build your fence ? Figure how many feet per hour or how many hours per foot it took , then how much an hour you want or need to make . Say it took you sixteen hours to build sixty feet of fence . 60 ' divided by sixteen hours = 3.75 feet per hour . Say your neighbor wants 100' of fence .100' divided by 3.75 = 26.67 hours X hourly wage = labor . I come up with $ 16.67 per foot for material , multiply that by the lineal footage of neighbors fence add markup if any . And consider anything that may make his fence harder , like obstacles, slopeing ground etc. Clear as mud huh . Chuck
*When I read your question, the first thing that popped into my head was the first thing Chuck said "how long did it take you, and how much do you charge per hour" ? Don't forget your profit and overhead - jb
