My wife and I are researching marble slabs for countertops. A website said about $50.00/sf. Does that include everything?… cutting, installation, polishing?…. or is that just the materials price.
Boy is that stuff heavy!!!

Depends on your market. I paid $50/sf 4 yrs afgo to have a slab cut to sized and polish thye edges, no installaton. No cutouits either.

I've paid much less for it than that. It depends on the grade and quality of the marble.. Those prices could be decent or even modest depending on those factors.
thank you
Doug, stone slabs are polished at the quarry of origin. The stone centers only cut the slabs and do the edge work. Marble isn't one of the more popular choices for countertops due to the way it can stain. I just had a 3/4" carrera marble top made for a piece of furniture I'm building. Kitchen countertops are normally made of 1 1/4" stone, not 3/4". My top cost about $55/sq.ft. and that included a premium edge on three sides. I had no sink cutout, templating or delivery.
I looked all over for carrera marble in my area and online. The prices I received varied from a low of $55 to more than double that amount. Part of the price difference was due to suppliers not having any on hand and having to order a slab for my piece. 1 1/4" may be more expensive. No info on your profile, but if you are close to Portland, Maine, Blue Rock has some carrera in stock, in limited quantity.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Hammer, in other parts of the country 3/4" (2cm) seems to be the standard instead of the 1 1/4" (3cm) we get here.
Have you checked out K+D Distributors in Windham? We've used everyone else around and they always have the lowest price by far, and the service and install are very good.
If you want the best you have to go to Morningstar in Topsham though!
Thanks for the recommendations, Mike. I love granite countertops since I don't have to do anything. Install the cabinetry and call the countertop folks. I tried Stone Concepts and Paul White, their prices were high since they didn't have any carrera in stock. Several online companies never got back to me. Blue Rock had a few 3/4" slabs I liked, along with a good price. They did a very nice job with an ogee edge. Funny, polished marble looks a lot like plastic marble. It should look fine with the Victorianesque piece of furniture. Honed may have been a better choice, in retrospect. I'll keep your sources in mind on the next one.Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I've recently had very bad luck with Paul White on scheduling issues, but we work with Stone Concepts sometimes. K+D just beat Stone Concepts best price on a Caesarstone top by a few hundred dollars.
We haven't worked with Blue Rock in years; we should give them a call on the next one. We have a kitchen coming up in Yarmouth that the owner wants Carrerra throughout.
