can't turn in freshman year. not shure about sophmore
It is poplar painted with black matt finish to match the other furniture
to make it easier to clean do you advise to put some matt poly on it?

any clear finish will help keep it clean
poly, or my current fave, shellac, will both work.

Looks good Andy. Did you make it in a high school shop? If so, I'm glad to see there are still some around. Keep up the good work. You will have a whole house of furniture before you know it, all of higher quality than you can buy.
