Does anyone use propane (bottled gas) just for cooking? If so how big a tank is usually used?

I do.
A ten gallon tank will last for at least three months, if there are no leaks.
I am cooking for one.
before you post it, ask yourself this question: Would my grandma twist my ear off for saying that? If the answer is yes, ditch it.

We do, I swapped out a BIG 250 gallon tank ( two actually) for 2 40's...we switched from heat to just cooking. That was July, and I am still on the same first 40, the second is so when the first dies, I just flip a lever and call for refill.
Two people, and we cook a LOT.
My tank rental was 75 a year, and these are free ( or I bought them) but either way, I save.
I can food a lot and use the BBQ tanks at 25 a fill, for that and sudden onset of need more heat, with a space heater in the equipment area( basement/root cellar) they get expensive that way.

The old cabin had a 100# cylinder. Plenty big to carry us about 26 weekends a year. Cooked all the time and heated bath water each Saturday on the stovetop.
Small enough to lift on the truck and carry home to fill when empty....dirt cheap when you carry it to their facility. Quite heavy when full but I made a wood chute to slide it down off the truck when full.
I recently saw this size at HD for $79.

Wife and i have a 100 lb cyl on our gas stove which i get refilled as needed
used to have bulk fill and found the cyl was so large it took 2 years to empty it after we stopped delivery
the gas co used to put in a squirt when they were going by and added on a delivery charge which seemed to be as much as the gas charge
now i just throw it on the truck and get it refilled on co $
a gas stove is sure handy when you have a power failure which we seem to get often enough
with a gas stove our back up generator did not need to be that large ( 5000 watt)
We hardly ever cook at home. BBQ tank lasts average of 6 months. Just picked up a freebie 100# I'm gonna hook up when this one goes empty.
Probably last us until the next ice-age!
