hello all,
as part of a renovation i’m doing on long island,ny i am trying to decide whether to go with an asphalt driveway or 3/4″ blue stone. i was just curious if i just have an aggregate base put down in the meantime, how many inches should it be? and can blue stone go right over this as well if i decide to go that route instead of asphalt or is that a waste of money and the blue stone can go right down on the soil? one thing i’m certain of is that i need to know proper minimums for the base or the whole thing will become a headache. thanks in advance for any advice.

6-8" compacted mineral base for either to start, but how deep depends on existing soils and ground water situation.
I would only place bluestone drive over concrete slab

depend on where you are at too, we just use six inches of red sand clay as base.
