great looking product, clean cut people
as of today, 3 friends , who bought his “product” have had problems wiht their creidt cards.
the parent company was in Pennsylvania, but the bogus charges came out of Canada
now Im not trying to say anything negative about Penn or Canada or the product
just reminding all of you, that hit the roads, that play the home show circuit

I don't know that a thing like this is related to shows. Any retailer can end up with a clerk who uses one of those spare scanners to store numbers to re-use later. The thing they recommend is don't let the card out of your sight.

There was a huge deal about that not long ago with gas station attendents.

When I was in high school my cc # was used to make calls to Pakistan or some other "stan". I bought gas at an Amoco for my motorcycle and that was where it was lifted.

Imagine where it'd end up if you got in a cab in NYC...for all you know your card'd be buying ports in the USA...lolIf Blodgett says Tipi Tipi Tipi, it must be so!
I had a card number stolen, and the individual(s) who stole it purchased a whole stack of sneakers. I caught wind of it within 24 hours of the purchase, went to the police, and now, here is the reallly funny part.
In an effort to save money the brilliant criminals did not upgrade to ups or fed ex and went with postal service.
Can you say wire fraud and criminal use of the postal system. The package was delivered to an address in chicago, and, I believe officers either delivered the package, or walked in the door after it.
The funny thing is that the nimrods are probably going to do more time for postal fraud than stealing a credit card number.
I love dumb criminals.
ps. never ever mess with the postal service. They are bad dudes when angry!
This problem is as old as credit cards. A little easier to do at some show like that where an old imprinter is used vs an on-line verification process.
happy?
I have always been skeptical of some vendors I have seen at home shows who seem to travel from show to show hawking their wares. Not saying all nomads are criminals, but any indication that someone isn't rooted in the community, or any community for that matter is a red flag for a con.
I've bought stuff on a number of occasions from traveling computer/electronics shows, and also bought stuff on phone order from outfits with tiny classified ads. Never had a problem with credit cards, and very few problems with merchandise or service.Ya gotta keep your eyes and ears open (and double-check your CC statements), but there's no need for paranoia.Factoid: The bulk of the "identity theft" that occurs is just like most murders -- friends and family, mainly just using credit cards without authorization. Various groups are trying to scare you with identity theft stories, but the cases of true identity theft they tell you about (some unknown party opens accounts in your name) are only a small fraction of what's counted in the category.

Yeah, well my brother got off with a slap after stealing $100K+ from my parents, much of it via unauthorized CC charges. I don't say the "stranger" fraud doesn't exist, just that the "friend and family" CC fraud is much more common and is being figured into the statistics.

I found a strange item on a CC bill and checked it out. It was payment for a UPS shipment to a city I used to live... to a house with a similar address to where I used to live. Same number, different street. I think what happened was that he got a stray piece of mail, either a bill or a replacement card that was supposed to go to my home, and he just sat on it for awhile. Lucky for me, I use that card only for business puchaces for a part time job - very little activity. Nothing else was charged.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA
