While visiting relatives in Scotland, I noticed that many of the fine teak and oak doors had a sliding curtain on them. When I asked why, I was told that over the years many different finishes had been tried, but none lasted that long in direct sunlight. The solution was to put these somewhat fashionable screens on them and to pull them across the door when the sun was shining on the door. Maybe not for everybody, this was a popular alternative to ongoing refinishing of exterior doors in Aberdeen.
