I am just finishing a new shop addition onto the garage, so one wall is shared with a garage kept at about 40 degrees in the winter with radient heat. The addition is 2×6 construction with blown in cellulose insulation in the walls. 8-10″ of blown in cellulose insulation in the ceiling. Double-pane windows.
I would like to install a PTAC unit for heating and AC. A couple questions:
1. Should I use a heat pump unit? I live in Iowa. Here are the average temps.
Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec | |
Avg. High | 24° | 28° | 44° | 58° | 71° | 80° | 84° | 81° | 74° | 61° | 45° | 28° |
Avg. Low | 5° | 10° | 25° | 37° | 48° | 57° | 62° | 58° | 50° | 38° | 26° | 11° |
2. How big a unit? I see units 7000 BTU to 15000 BTU’s
Thanks for any input.
