Presently have a pull down stair (9 ft ceiling) for an attic. Stair is off the shelf brand with handrails on both sides. Does anyone know where one can purchase a wider pull down unit i.e. fill two joist spaces instead of the one I have now. This narrow stair does not allow any large furniture items to be stored in the attic.

Have you checked whether the attic framing can support large furniture? Run a search on the manufacturer of your existing stair for a wider model.
