I need to design some sort of pull-out system to utilize the space below a stairwell in a storage-challenged home. The typical (e.g. arts-and-crafts-style) approach is to access the area with drawers from the side. Unfortunately, this option is not possible in this home. The access needs to be end-on, e.g. from a 6’8″ door. Has anyone designed (or seen) such a system?

I've worked in a home that a bank of drawers built in the wall at the high end of a set of stairs.
If you took out the door, could you put in drawers of varying lengths?
