Is this the alternative to steel?Just read about it in May/June issue of Carpenter.Been using alot of steel in residential new construction in Chgo area. After 20 yrs in union going back to school to learn more about building with steel. Now I see I might have to learn about fiberglass. The more you know the more you grow. The times they are a changing(and so are the building materials).Love this trade.
Any comments about building without wood?

Yeah, I have a comment. I'd rather drive a F*rd.
Come on jim, this is the new wave of construction.Steel isn't bad to work with.I use it for basements at almost half the price of wood.Good for the homeowner(save some $$$) good for me,just a tin snip and a screw gun.As for the F*rd,I'm not going there.
sorry man but I don't want to live in a house with metal studs. I'll take a little extra mass and solidity any time.
I've worked extensively with steel studs. In many, many applications I think they're a great alternetive to wood. I just don't like working with them, that's all. Nothing romantic about them, fiberglass either. I'd use less concrete if I could, too. I dislike working with all that unnatural, hard to cut, toxin emmitting, man made crap. Wood, man, wood.
