Building PVC Trim Surrounds for my windows. I have not used PVC Trim before. What glue works the best for gluing miters? What is best for attaching surrouds to the house siding nails or trim screws? I was thinking of using Bond & Fill Glue for the miters.
What is good to fill nail or screw holes with? Core Tex screws seem pretty pricey.
Thanks

I use Azek glue-works great-just like a pvc pipe job-it welds the joint. If you can, cut and make up/glue the trim. Let set until dry and then install as one pc. This works better as you have a good tite joint made up on the bench and then the whole unit goes in-no moving mitres...................
I use trim screws-there are some meant for pvc and composites-GRK makes some nice ones. The go in and don't mushroom.
Bond and Fill has been said to be the best for filling the holes
You can nail it-I have used dbl dip'd galv siding nails-let 'em show, it is exterior trim.
up north
up here, ontario, we use pvc and styrofoam moldings for exterior trim and the supplier gets us to use a product called mitre-bond. you put glue on the joint, then close it up, then spray it with an activator, which works its way through the glue in the joint and sets it. you normally have to hold it together for about 20 seconds. thats it, then nail it off,
when we first tried it, we would try to poull the joint apart of course, to satisfy our curiosity, and every time, the moulding would snap off about 1/2 inch away from the joint. strong stuff. and similar to calvin, you can put a bunch of pieces together on the ground and lift it up into place as one unit.
mitre-bond sticks to a lot of things, and it will glue your skin together. im sure most manufacturers of exterior products have thier own preferences, but mitre bond will work too

I use a product from Fastcap-2P10-forumulated cryanciad;fknq[iha;ihlate glue.
While assembling countless in/out pcs of cabinet crown, I did glue myself to about a 6' multi mitre mass. Looked everywhere and tried every solvent to release it-gave thought to utility knife...............briefly.
Finally found a can of PAM-the frying pan lube. Worked like a charm. Carry a can with you-it'll save you the pain of being stuck.
I was using titebond on most of the joint, then a couple dots of 2P10 at either end of the joint. The titebond for longlast glueup and the quickset for instant bond. Speeds up the process.
Do people paint Azek if they want white?
As you know, Azek comes in the color white. If you want the trim to be white, do you still paint Azek? My lumber yard told me that you should still paint it as Azek has a negative charge on it which attracts dust/dirt.
Well
On the couple I've seen afterwards that weren't painted-I didn't see any static cling. Perhaps the caulk appeared to take on some grime-but not the azek.
Paint or not. Might be necessary to blend caulk and fill.............there's another brand that has a proprietary caulk and fill.............name excapes me. The same co. has a "J" channel sort of flat stock-it has a rabbit for the siding to slip behind.
And, an integral water table.
Damn I wish I could remember the name.
sorry.
I've been using 15 ga ss finish nails to attach my azek trim. I just use exterior spackle to fill the nail holes. I've attached 17 + foot corner boards this way and have had them up for several years and no problems. In the beginning I used galvanized decking screws on the corner boards and that took way too long. Azek doesn't recommend finish nails but I talked to several folks who have used them with no problem.
PVC Trim
Hi Thanks for your input. I went with the Bond & Fill brand. It was one of the (two listed) products CertainTeed had recommended in the installation manual. I also called them and ask them about other brands and they said the ones listed are what they recommended to use. I will post after I use the product and tell you how it went. As far as fasteners I still have not got a good answer to that. The manual says do not use ring shank nails or screws but they could not give me a good answer as to why not. Smooth shank just does not hold as well. I will post on what I find out with fasteners also.
