Hi all, I have 4 new PVC insert windows to install. The last time I used low-expanding polyurethane foam to fill the gap around the new frame . I was also told I could instead stuff the 1/4 inch gap around the new frame with pink insulation which would be considerably less messy than the foam. Are either methods acceptable? Do I need to be concerned about the ‘R’ value of either the foam or the pink insualtion if I’m living in a colder climate? Thanks for any help on this.
One last question in regards to shimming: The windows are 74X32. Would you consider shimming in both corners as well as the middle for a wide window like this? I found the other windows sagged in the middle slightly. I’ve heard of people having windows that don’t operate properly due to improper shim placement. I’ve also heard of people using high expanding foam around doors and not being able to get out of the house!
Thanks…Mike
