You may have seen the photos of the place we are finishing up now. To me, it seemed like a lot of work, using a whole lotta wood.
The client bought the plans from a biz called Healthy Home Plans (HHP), and it is a Sarah Susanka design. The client was the first customer to buy the plans when they first came out, and I fed back to Healthy Home Plans all the plans errors I found.
Since I was the first one to build the house (besides the original GC for the prototype, built in VT in 1998), the guy at HHP has referred a few of the later purchasers of the plans to me for advice.
The latest is a guy who owns land in Leland, MI, on the shore of Lake Michigan, up above Traverse City. I did a Google search for builders in or near Leland, and came up with one really qualified outfit.
This custom builder, Easling Construction, has a great website. Here are some pics from their large gallery that caught my eye.
This dormer with window seat is a good one. Great sheetrock detailing.
Check out the louvered window cover over the bath. Nice. Good looking stone work, too. I’ll bet they made the door in their shop.
The fireplace with adjacent TV boxout has a great look with the curved stone mantle and hearth pieces. I like the glass right up to the ceilings, in the background.
Here is their shop, viewed from outside. A little shingle work here, some board and batten there, and a nifty looking stone wall on the building in the foreground.
And inside.
Molding patterns all on view.
And an example of something they knocked out with the tools.
Makes me drool! Give me a shop like that, and I will build you most anything!

Give me a shop like that,
and I'll never be seen again.
