Quickbooks Question

802Mike | Posted in Business on January 18, 2009 09:39am

I upgraded to the 2008 version a while back and like it. Except now when I enter a new customer in the  “Customer Name” box (as I always have) and then view the “Customer List” that customer is at the top of it.

I’ve always entered: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME and they were shown in alphabetical order. I can’t seem to find a way to make it right.

Can anyone help?

TIA Mike

That may be a glitch in the software. There were some posts not too long ago stating that the new 2008 version had many problems.

I have Quickbooks 5.0 for mac and don't seem to have that problem.
Granted I Don't have the version that you have but that does not sound right. I would talk to Intuit even though I would not put a lot of faith in them. Worst case, back up your data, reload the software and start over. Now in order to get the old info back in you may wish to make a separate company open that and manually re-enter the info.

I know I know doesn't sound like fun but just a suggestion if all else fails.

    Good luck.

    Ray.

There are apparently problems with QB2009. 2008 is fine, but I don't have the issue the OP has.http://www.quittintime.com/      View Image

There used to be (in 04 QB) an item to resort list. Hunt around for that. May be in the File command. Maybe on the Customer command.

    I don't have my 08 with me.

I have heard many bad words spoken about QB 09. I'm staying w/08.

I was at a customer's house and realized that she taught Q-Books so asked her. Here's How:

Open a check, that will give you access to ALL names. A Bill would only do Vendors, an Invoice would only do Customers.

With the curser in the Name Field.

Do Ctrl + L  that will open the list.

Click on the Name Box at the bottom.

      Click on Resort List.

I'm using QB Pro 2007 and haven't seen the problem described by the OP, but will take advantage of this thread to strongly advise everyone to avoid QB 2009!!In January, I bought the '09 upgrade, loaded it, and that's when the train wreck began. After a couple of hours of "WTF is going on here?", I went to the Intuit website and found two users group forums dealing with '09 issues. There were ~300 posts beginning in 10/08, and they were all negative. Many of them appeared to be from CPA's, accountants, small business owners, etc who had some seriously hosed up customer files and were screaming for help. There were some periodic posts from an Intuit Project Manager whose message was "We hear you, we're working on it, and we'll let you know later".It took most of a day to uninstall '09, reinstall my '07, and restore my most recent backup files. It took most of another day to re-enter the stuff that hadn't been backed up (my bad) and get back to normal. After a rather firm discussion with Intuit Customer Service (who seemed to be very aware of the problem), I returned the program and will get a refund.

Yeah, my cuctomer's first question was, "Is it the '09 version?"

Mine is '08, but many years ago I tried to re-install a QB program. I had made two back-ups and both were messed up. Good thing it was early in my business. I think what happed to the back-ups was,  I had put them in my briefcase forgetting that I had some magnetic business cards in there. This was in the days od discs.

Never, ever waste your time going to the intuit message boards.  I've had "average" questions posted there that have literally never gotten a response.

Post questions here or on Chief Architects message boards.

Hands down, the two best message boards anywhere.  I routinely post questions on both and routinely will get answers within 15 minutes.

Intuits "coaches" or whatever the he## they are called are worse than the message boards.

You might be right about the useless responses on the Intuit site, but the questions/complaints I read sure were eyeopeners. - lolFor All-Pro pizz-poor customer "service", I would nominate Bank of America. In '04, SWMBO and I started our businesses and began using Quickbooks to keep the records. I also created a third QB file for our personal stuff. We have seven B of A accounts (checking and VISA for each business, and personal checking, VISA, and money market accounts). From '04 to '08, I could download all transactions directly from B of A into QB whenever I wanted to.Last year, our personal VISA got a new account number and when I tried to download those transactions, I couldn't do it. Last Monday, I spent two hours on the phone and went thru two QB/Quicken experts who couldn't figure out why. The last one told me that she was going to submit a trouble ticket and that I would get a response within 48 hours. It's almost a week later and I haven't heard a word. Anybody want to take any bets? - lol

Customer service and journalism both died the same year I think.
