John,
That's an old one. I learned how to do it at least 15 years ago. Pretty clever tho.
*I saw this done about 6-7 months ago and forgot all about it.Glad you reminded me cause I was planning on winning some bets with our crew. good Luck, stephen
*Jon, Ken, and Stephen, So, are you guys going to post a soltuion or gif or something like that? I, of course, have it all figured out... I just am concerned for the other guys who haven't gotten it yet. Like I said, I got it right away... No problem... Just thinking of all those OTHER frustrated guys, did I mention I did it...Jon
*It's so easy and obvious; there is no need to post the 'solution' -- why state the obvious? Everyone has solved Quiz #3 -- let's have a really hard one now!
*Jon,Just to show you what a good sport I am I will tell you exactly how to solve the puzzle.....This winter, when you have no work to do,drive to Lake Hope State Park in south east Ohio and visit the Visitors Center(like I did last year). This puzzle and several others are on display. They also have a web site, but I doubt this puzzle is on it.Actually it may have been another park,I will have to ask my "better half" when she gets home.good luck,Stephen
*It was my understanding that you need an even number of nails after nailing one into the board. Fourteen minus the nailed one yields thirteen, and it won't work that way, if I'm on the right track.
*Steve, interesting point, but why wouldn't it work? Odd amount of nails means you just slide some to one end to balance everything out. Righting moment and all that. Opps...did I just give it away to all those frustrated carps?
*Rich,Seems to me that there's a balancing problem with an uneven number of nails. In this case, it'd be six on one side and five on the other, so the assemblage would tip.
*Steve,14 will work just fine
*This is as old as the hills......Doesn't this belong in the Tavern?Ed. Williams
*Hey, Ed. You know how it goes. Guys talkin' just like they're at the bar, but they are still on the job.Anticipation...
*According to my kids new math, any answer is okay as long as it is good for your self-esteem.
