*Electric will require a thermal mass, 12" sand, to allow purchase of off peak electric at night. Hot water will allow quicker adjustment of temperature as well as the option of what method to use to heat it. With rising oil prices, off-peak electric may be more cost effective now, but electric deregulation may drive prices up later. I'd choose the option that allows you to (somewhat) readily change heating methods (water),
