Radiant Heat for kitchen remodel
So, I’m gutting my kitchen thinking “what am I going to do with my radiators?” and my neighbor mentions that he has spec’d stand alone radiant floor heat systems for kitchen remodels in the past.
I like the idea and a Google search gives me a bunch of hits. Any system recommendations, or words of caution?
Thanks

I'm definately not an expert in this area, but I will add some comments to keep your thread afloat.Several considerations. Is the underside of your floor accessible (over a crawl space or basement with no finished ceiling)? If so, you may want to look at hydronic heating by stapling tubing to underside of floor. If you only want heat intermittently and you are willing to leave the heat off most of the time, or, alternatively, you have really cheap electricity, you may want to look at electric resistance radiant systems. If you don't mind loosing a couple of inches of height by raising the floor, and the floor is really rigid, you can float a lightweight concrete mixture over hydronic tubing and cover with new flooring. Or, if the floor isn't quite so solid, you can use something like Warmboard or similar or make your own by either cutting strips of plywood or rigid foam insulation, laying the tubing between the strips and covering the whole area with a new subfloor. There have been numerous discussions of radiant and hydronic heating on Breaktime in the past. You can do a search and get more than you would care to read. You can also do a Google search on either "hydronic heating" or "radiant floor heating" or some other variant and find a wealth of fairly specific information.
