Anyone got a good resource to review some radius exposed roof gables that tie back into conventional hipped configuration? There’s got to be more than one way to do this sweetly.

There are a number of ways to achieve a level foundation and mudsill.

What kind of a resource are you after?
Developments such as this Circular Dormer intersects Main Roof? How to cut the compound angles on the purlins at the intersection with the main roof slope? How to solve the above if there is a sloped ridge line?
Hey there,
Appreciate the response. Anything would be helpful. I will look into this info.
Thanks again,
RJ
Hi again,
Is the information you have here provided in any kind of resource for variations.? I have a radius on the front and it comes back into the house intersecting with two gables at different angles. I will try to incorporate the same logic into the roof I have.
Thanks again,
RJ

Can you post a few dimensions?
Got a plan view handy?

These are some sketches of Purlins following an Arch intersecting a Main Roof I meant to post yesterday. It should be possible to apply the geometry underlying the development and/or purlins to each "gable at different angles" ...
I second Blue's motion for some drawings or sketches. What exactly are we making? Is this a Hip roof with a radiused dormer lying above the Hip in plan view and intersecting the two different slopes?

Radius steel studs would be the easiest way to frame it, i have been thinking about building some of those with my bender. I would like to build a nice barrel ceiling , and have it penetrate a hip roof with a circle top window in it. kind of like this barrel, i call it a one sheet ceiling, it takes one 4 x 12 to make it, and has only seams to finnish.
JOe, a most impressive link again to a very complex (in my brain anyways) roof framing question.

good responses above, i prefer will holladay's book, "a roof cutters secrets"
i was trained in techniques similar to what will uses, we both apprenticed in the same area at the same time (central coast late 70's for me, early for will) so they are much easier for me to understand, will breaks down all the variations step by step and you don't even need a calculator although it is easier with the construction master.
there are many variations, you can do an eyebrow cathedral dormer, sweet sweet and sweet!
