Client asked for a dog/baby gate to match the railing I just built them. I was planning on slicing off the cap of the handrail and screwing pickets in from the top and the bottom of the gate. I believe this will provide me with a gate that doesn’t rack, however how do i hinge such a beast? Soss Hinges won’t work, if they made a side oriented Soss hinge it would work. I have looked at pivots and haven’t found a suitable hinge, so far all I have been able to come up with is a Hook and eye hinge, does anyone have a more elegant solution? What about the type of hinge that kitchen doors use--the doors that swing in and out--they have a sort of peg at top and bottom that fits into a mortise and have a sleeve that makes them alway go back to center. (Plus they have big springs to close them.)

Could try 'cafe' hinge similar to the one above. Might need three depending on the size of the hinges and/or the weight of the gate.
