I’m actually a cabinetmaker but may be doing a remodel which involves installation of a hardwood floor – the 2 1/4″ t&g type. I’m OK with the installation (I did it one whole time before) but my sanding wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. I heard about the 3-pad random orbit sanders and wondered if they do a nice job. I know the hand-held ones do. Is drum and edger sanding still necessary first or will the ROS do the whole shebang? Any comments would be welcomed. I still have to find a place to rent me one too. Seattle area, any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

i looked allover for one of these random orbit sanders and just couldn't find one so i rented on of the square pad vibrating types. these type are almost screw up proof, but partly because they are removing material so slow you can't gouge the floor. if you have some cheap help that can sand all day with one they will do a nice job. larry
