I have a deck that’s 25 years old. It consists of a layer of 3/4″ marine plywood on a pressure treated base covered with indoor/outdoor carpet. Structurally, everything is fine. The problem is that the carpet is continually covered with moss, mildew, and other unmentionable substances. I want to pull up the carpet and put a new deck down. My question is as follows:
Should I remove the plywood? There is good drainage to the outside edge of the deck. Looking forward to your good advice.

What kind of decking are you going to use? If it's boards then rip up the plywood, if it's carpeting then leave it down.

I plan to use some sort of boards, not sure yet whether PT or a composite of some sort.
I would definitely remove the plywood before adding boards. There would be all kinds of debris trapped between the boards and the plywood.
