There are occasionally posts regarding the silver spoon bunch, and how we love to hate them. Once we say so, though, it is hard to come up with clear reasons why they get under our skin.
Here are two articles that maybe will clarify that. I have not worked on this job, but I heard about it from the electricians on my job.
Homeowner in the article is filling his reflecting pools, while we in neighboring drought-restricted areas are, well, drought-restricted. Luckily I get municipal water. Some folks I know right down the road cannot even drink their well water now – it is metallic smelling and tasting, getting close to running the wells dry.

Thanks for the early morning pick me up. 13/8ths, I wonder what the balance of the clearance was?

Let's face it, there are insensitive morons in every walk of life. People who feel the rules just don't apply to them. Some people feel this way about stealing, others about water use laws, some celebrated few feel this way about accounting rules and responsibility to shareholders.
As far as the "glut of stuff", I laugh when I see what some people spend their money on. Like a $50,000 SUV. Hey, if it isn't my money, I figure "buddy, someone just ripped you off royally, and you are either too stupid to notice, or you just don't care" The more money some people waste on stupid things, the more the economy works.
If you take the whole "resent people who have money and buy frivolous things" argument to the extreme, then you shouldn't eat any more than absolutely necessary, and then give your left over money to people who can't afford to eat.
You start feeling that way, I'll send you my address. I'm wondering where the bank's gonna get my next house note from cause I sure don't have it yet!
