Can replacement windows be used in new construction? If so, how are the installed and flashed?
I am planning an addition and would like to avoid throwing out and rebuying windows. The windows seem to be good quality 2 ply vinyl. The house is wood frame with stucco. The windows have never leaked, but there is only a trim piece caulked against the window side with double sided tape holding it to the stucco. I have wondered about using replacement windows at all. There is no flashing, etc. All the things that so many articles talk about being necessary for a water tight finish.
Thanx

With some careful work
you could probably attach 2" x 2" galv metal flashing to the outsides, as nailing fins. Careful work with sheet metal screws and an appropriate sealant. Then flash again with butyl self-adhesive flashing tape that laps onto the vinyl.
