recommendation for a flooring nailer
well getting closer to laying 3/4 oak floor ,laying over 3/4 advantech, and looking at buying a nailer or stapler. i know i want air because i’m old and i don’t think my arms are big enough to wack them nails on one stroke! what do you guys like nails or staples? what brand of gun. i see alot of bostich, but i hate bostich framing nailers [i think they ought to be outlawed the way they misfire and shoot nails every where] are the bostich floor nailers ok? senco ? any others? i’m sure once i get the nailer i’ll have lots of other questions on this flooring project! thanks larry

I`m oldschool...so`s, not only would I recomend nails....but I`d stay away from the pnuematic as well. I don`t believe you get as tight a flooring job as with the good `ol manual.
But, you can disregard what I have to say....I love my Bostitch framer.
Did you happen to buy yers at Home Despot?

you know it's funny you say that i think all 3 of them i've been around came from a big box store. the problem i have with bostich is probably not all there fault. first 2 were around habitat houses. we had had nails flying all over from that 2nd recoil shot . scared the h-ll out of me. 3rd nailer was a buddy helping me on my house. i have a old-old duofast, must weigh 12 lbs you can pull the trigger and there is no recoil because it's so heavy. so i'm in the habit of pulling trigger and basiclly holding trigger open. i do that on bostich and i have sometimes blown 3 nails before my finger gets off. i had to learn to just brush my finger across the trigger and hope for the best.never had a jam or any other problem other than nails flying all over [thank goddess never hit anyone].if they had a button to go to single fire i'd like them fine. larry
jay... i have two Porta-nailers ... and lot's of memories of sore muscles
i avoided the air flooring guns like the plague ... for the same reason as you.. that i could get the floor tighter with my Porta -nailer than anyone could with an air-powered gun..
guess what ?.. i was wrong.. wanna buy a couple Porta-nailers ?..
we have the Bostich floor stapler.. and it is sweet..lays a floor as tight or tighter than the old wham-bam-thank-you-mam...
not only that but you can get SS staples for it if you want to do T&G fir decking ...

I think along the same lines as jay and you used to. What draws the floor up tight and do the staples hold as well as nails? These days the mind is still willing but the body isn't quite so able.

guess what ?.. i was wrong..
I been hearing that more and more of late....mebbe its time I try an air gun....I give your opinion a bit more weight than some of the other guys who`ve told me so.J. D. Reynolds

If you want a Bostich pneumatic nailer, I know where you can get a good buy on one that was only used to lay about 1500sf of floor. Owner bought it and now is done with it. I'm trimming the place out now and use a stapler anyway for floors, I think staples hold better, but nails are fine too.
Email me or post here if you're interested.
I have a porta-nails air nailer it uses the same nails as their hand nailer, it also has a replaceable shoe for face nailing. It takes about three minutes to change shoes.
This nailer puts the flooring down as tight or tighter than my hand nailer, also saves alot of wear and tear on elbows. I have installed about 2,900 s.f. of 3" oak in my house.
