You must be careful about regulations. Oil tanks can have hazardous materials in them, and depending on where you live, you might have to do some serious cleaning, and have to send the cleaning residue to a certified company.
tanks are clean and have been collected by municipalityand can be had just by asking for them.
This is one persons oil tank mod.
thanks for the pics, willing to look at all possibilites.Mike.
Have seen used propane tanks used for similar purpose by:
Laying tank on it's side and cutting a liftable "lid" out of the side with a torch. Hinges and re-bar lift handles then welded in place to complete.
I guess you could saw and bolt if no access to cutting torch / welding equipment.
Not much help.......
Jim
Good group this AM, usually get a couple of 'ya gonna blow yourself up' comments in addition to a 'toxic' comment.
Saw one in half, hinge one side, couple of floor grate sections to hold the charcoal, weld on a piece of stove pipe and you have one fine pig roaster!
first pix found on internet is from http://www.lazyemotorinn.com/PigRoaster.htm

Golly, the pig aint toxic and dont look like the folk blew themselves up (probably filled it with water first, the cheats)
Your 2nd pic is exactly what I had in mind -- 'though that one is a little fancier with 2 doors and all......
I do think the center bar being left in place would help with the structural integrity.
Bet some good eats have come and gone through those doors since that photo was shot. Shame I wasn't invited.
JimNever underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Didja look at the link. The pix I posted was 'in the rough', the web reference shows the thing finalized with procelain coatings and all.
Even I was impressed <G>
Man, that is nice!
Even without the paint job, you could make a lot of new friends with that rig.
And a good time was had by all.......
