Hi all …
I’m looking to build an outdoor deck with lots of curved radiuses and benches. I’m looking at either dark red meranti or redwood and am interested in anyone’s experience in using either of these woods particularly when bending is involved. For example, could I get away with kerfing a 1 x 10 board for a 4-foot radius deck fascia, or would I need to laminate several layers of thinner stock? I live in Colorado and the climate here is very dry.
A pix is attached showing some of the challenges I’m facing.
Any advice and counsel is greatly appreciated!

jt Haven't used meranti but I believe it is harder and stiffer than redwood. I'd laminate thinner wood and set it to a form.If You have access to a band saw that wood be my route.

Hey, the picture looks great.... I wouldn't change a thing!
It depends on how tight your radii are. I did a very slight radius on a deck in SoCal recently and we used clear redwood, uncurfed and forced it to the joisting. For a tighter radius I would use thin veneers, Gorilla Glue, and seal it with major weather-beater finish. Remember that, even though it's dry there, it gets wet, and the expansion/contraction factor is going to attack your curve as much or more than straight-line framing.
good luck
