I have two 2”x24″x20′ redwood planks I’m going to use for an outside table and I’m wondering if I should glue them together or space them apart. What should I do about supporting them and what type of finnish would be best?

Man, if I had wood like that over here on the right cost, I'd just mount 'em on the hall wall and worship them!

Forrest, I bought two tiger maple boards about 15 years ago, 2" X 17" X 12'
I didn't really have a use for them but thought the price and the opportunity was right so I snapped them up.
When I was arranging for shipping I was thinking outloud to the guy that I purchased them from, wondering what I would do with them, he said, "hang em on the wall and just admire their beauty"
I still haven't used them!

I've got a 4x4x 36" piece of perfect Purpleheart, and one of Cocobola the same size, that I'm afraid to use!

.. that wide their going to want to cup, so I wouldn't make it worse by gluing then and making them wider. Make sure the growth rings are up and screw them from a support below so that the wood can move. If you finish the wood make sure you do top and bottom, we like Sikiens (sp) Cetol ..
use a dovetail slip joinery system with no glue. Fit them snug, use a router to make it up, and let them slide to and fro.

Beings that they are outside.....I'd leave a 3/8 +- gap between them and attach the underneath by screw, but I'd slot the under board to allow for shrink/swell..........no finish unless it's a watco type.....
I'd watch for cupping and just flip them from time to time
