I have 30 year old kitchen cabinets that need help. They are really dirty and dark stained over the years of use. I tried Murphys Oil Soap and it helps with the sticky part but they are still caked with Old English Scratch Cover and was wondering what I could use to get these cabinets clean and back to their original cherry wood finish?
They need to be Lightened up big time and I do not want to have to strip them completely –I just want to be able to clean them. Any input?

Try cheap toothpaste mixed with a little water, rubbed in with a rag. Wipe clean. I've seen it work pretty well.
Test it first, though.

A sharp card scraper makes pretty fast work of getting the grunge off, follow that with steel wool and Bobs yer uncle.

Try a solvent wipe product from an auto body paint supplier. It's used as a last step to super clean the surface prior to applying the color and clear coats. Used it on my maple cabinets followed by two coats of Deft clear finish. Turned out great.
