I am in the process of refinishing a vanity cabinet in a children’s bath. When I stripped off all the old layers of paint, I found very nice red oak doors. Unable to find a stain I liked, I mixed an oil based almond paint with paint thinner to make a transparent glaze. It worked and the door looks nice. However, the cabinet is in a children’s bath, so I believe I need to topcoat to preserve the finish. I do not want to use an oil based polyurethane because I do not want the amber color. Any suggestions? Thanks.
