A current project requires the refinishing of two raised panel wood garage doors. The existing finish has flaked, and gone opaque in areas with the most sun and rain exposure. I would like to use a product I can apply with an HVLP or airless sprayer. Our proximity to the ocean and resulting foggy days hinders exterior finishing.
> There is so much to choose from – Polyurethane, Urethane, Monourethane, Marine Spar Varnish, Enduro Poly Coat, Nautiforte, – I am lost in the pile of options.
> I would like to use a water born product but know of none which have been field tested and stood the test of time.
> I am also in a bit of a quandry as to the best stripper to use – for best results and ease of application and b cleanup. I tried a “Orange” stripper, it seemed to work ok with two applications but even with the poly scrubber I used there were substantial raised splinters in the wood on the stile and rail edge radius.
Please help be make these doors beautiful again – the existing finish (unknown product ) has only been on for two-three years.
