I need to refinish my hardwood flooring. I don’t want to sand down to new wood if I can help it. Most of the floor is in good shape but there are a few places where it is lightly worn. These areas have small spots where the wood is “dirty” looking (grayish). Is there any way to treat these spots and then just screen and refinish? I’m thinking of re-oiling or spotsanding.
Thanks for your advise.

try an orbital sander with lt. grit in a place you can practice. see what happens. the screen won't be strong enough i don't think without any opinion cuz i did'nt see it. professionals can give you good advice if they can see it. call one.
*Richard, first determine your original finish. Oil can be cleaned and recoated as a touch-up. Shellac can be "floated" and recoated. Varnish, well... get to sanding, as varnish doesn't repair well, easily. Polyurethane especially.PS, the grey spots may be bare wood already. What wood is your "hardwood" floor?

Want to refinish oak furniture. How do I restore 30 yr old oak living room furniture that is dark and dingy. It does not have any kind of finish on it, and i am hesitant to just sand it. any ideas? thanks

Suzy, "Knots" is the better forum for this question.
