Wondering who people recommend for web site registration.
I have always just renewed with Register.com where I first got site registered.
Any better or cheaper places to keep site registered with?

Yahoo had a $2.99 deal going last week - might be worth a check.
Cool these days - it used to cost $35/year or $70/2 years to do the same thing!

Thanks, I'll check into that
Had mine with registar.com and changed to http://www.godaddy.com
No problems and better deal.
Thanks, I'll look there as well
I don't know much about registration. I just need to keep my site address - don't use many other sevices
Guess I do have my e-mail through Register.com as well - will have to check that out
I pay $7 month for Dreamhost.com to host my domain. I've not yet posted a Web site or even a home page, but do use my email throught the domain and also it allows me a way to show clients images, sketches, estimates, etc. without having to screw around with email problems.I can also password protect client folders to allow for secure viewing of estimates and invoices.I've had the domain for over a year and have only just started to use it for more than email.Personally, I think it's a little cheesewhiz to have a business and use an AOL/Yahoo/or Hotmail free email account - almost as bad as working a job with a harbor freight cordless drill. Not to mention that unless you pay a little extra, in some cases you cannot access your account through your computer's email program which in most cases is much more reliable in terms of attachments and such as well as allowing for off-line viewing and editing and easier backing up of your old emails, received and sent.Jt
http://www.godaddy.com will keep your name registared and host the site to include email.
All in one. They will walk you through the process. They have promotions all the time, I registared for one year and got one free, with an additional discount off of hosting.
Hi Shoeman:
I have several sites registered and hosted.
You can register your URL for $15/year with http://www.directnic.com, and they have free hosting (although it has banner advertising that you can't get rid of - that's how you get free hosting). If you don't want the banners, you can get bannerless hosting here for very cheap (only $45/year). I've registered six URL's there and have four sites hosted (two free, two not free)
I also have a site hosted at http://www.fatcow.com. I love fatcow, as you get mega memory (more than directnic) for only $99/year, and it also has a shopping cart built in for free if you want to have any ecommerce function.
Have at it!
Oink!
You can register your domain at least a dozen different places, and the prices are (mostly) all low enough that it's hardly worth it to try to find the "best" deal -- just shop around enough to know you're not paying a sucker price. You don't have to use your original registrar to renew or to host a site, so all you really lose by picking the wrong one is a few bucks.
Hosting is a different matter, and can run from free (if you don't mind the obnoxious ads) to killobucks a month (for a lot of traffic and hand-holding). Or, if you're into self-abuse, you can do your own hosting, either on your own box (probably having to pay "business" rates for the connection) or on a "blade" that you rent somewhere.
I'll mention that the only reason I went with Dreamhost.com is that they were doing a 1 year for $7 anniversary promotion. The following year it was/is like $7/month.I will say that every time I've had any questions about problems or technical issues - they've been very responsive - nice to see in an internet only business. If you need a host - I'd say they would be a good choice, although I'm not exactly sure about the GB limits on storage/email/transfers, etc.JT
