The collar ties in my 5 year old house are deflecting downward 3/4 inches in one open span of an upstairs room. This is causing some sheetrock cracking at the point where the collar ties meet the rafters. I want to reinforce the collar ties using a threaded-rod/turnbuckle system. However, I’m not sure how to make the connection of the threaded rod to the rafters prior to tensioning. Is there any stock hardware out there for this purpose? Any alternative suggestions?

Have the birds mouths on the rafters shown any movement and the rafters at the peak? How long are the collar ties? All you have to do is hang them from the ridge with some lumber. Or plwood gussets. A turn buckle is omly needed to pulkl the walls back in, if they are out.
