We have a large concrete patio at our home that was installed in 1971.
The installers did an excellent job is there is not a crack anywhere in the patio after 38 years. It is however turning a dark gray as concrete does in time. Any suggestions on how this could be rejuvinated – – but not by painting?

Try a clorox type bleach on it. I spread it on with a broom, then hose it off. Also scrub with laundry detergent or some other type of cleaner.
And then use a topping mix to suit your desire. Here's one manufacturer's products:

There should be lots of pictures and links of what you can achieve.
A wash with TSP, and a stiff brush should clean up any oils or dirt on the surface.
If it still isn't the color you want, try a wash with dilute muratic acid.
I'd do as Jigsandfixtures recommends. Avoid powerwashing with any kind of pressure as it is easy to take the surface off and then you are ####ed.
After it's clean and dry for a really nice touch you can seal it, but then you are stuck with having to do it yearly.
