Hi,
We are considering purchasing a large A-Frame home in Nelson, New Zealand. It is in great shape, with a nice yard, but is incredibly ugly- as well as having very poor utilization of space. It was a primary dwelling, not a vacation home. Given the warm weather, there is no need for a cold weather design.
We would really appreciate any suggestions or resources that you can suggest to remodel this home into something with better utility and perhaps a little more style.
Thanks,
Wendy

How 'bout you fly me to NZ to look at it? Love the country, but a picture of it would be worth, say a round trip ticket!
es a picture would help greatly. Barring that a lot would depend on what the budget is. Adding dormers, (shed or gable) would give you lots of space however it could open a structural can of worms.
I will see if I can track down a photo and I will post it. We have not purchased the property yet, just considering our options, and want to make sure we can modify the house should we decide to buy it. We are waiting for the KIWI dollar to come down. That will make a huge difference in what we can afford to do. Remodelling can be done for about $100 a square foot, fairly high end over there. Of course the cost of this will go down if our dollar goes up against the KIWI dollar.
Thanks for the suggestions to date.

Just curious KIWI dollar? What does that stand for.
Sorry, the New Zealand Dollar. It is supposed to crash sometime in the next 6-12 months, and is coming down daily.

Thanks, New Zealand, that makes your project all the more interesting. Looking forward to seeing some photos I'll do my best to answer your questions if I can. Not that's it's of any importance but I have a close friend heading to New Zealand in a few months. He's one of the iceheads working at McMurdo Base in Antarctica, plans on spending a month in NZ as soon as his tour is up.
He will love it. It is a beautiful place!
