not sure if I posted this before …
or possible got the idea from reading it here.
but … today …
I remembered to use the shop vac as a wet vac.
demo day in a bath … time to pull the toilet.
so … shut off water … flush it down.
and suck out the bowl with the shop vac.
then … suck out the little bit in the tank.
bang … done!

Guy I used to work with had a mini-vac for just that purpose.
That's been my method since the late eighties-sure beats the old sponge method!

Sure wish you'd have brought that up about 40 toilets ago.
I had a HO watch me empty his toilet once. He couldnt believe how I thought nothing of reaching in to get the last bit of water.
Just part of the job. He just shook his head.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
Hey GuysTry a bilge pump. You can pick one up from a marine supply store about 15-20 bucks. I have been using one for years works great. No need to get the shopvac out.Frank
Arent bilge pumps 12 volt ? How do you power it ?
it is a hand pump.
I am trying to attach a picture. Not sure if it will work.
Had a good bud who was a master plumber. Ed always said "Your shid is my dinner"
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
That's a good idea. I've got a couple of small bilge pumps for a kayak. Need to attach a hose to reach the bathtub or bucket.
Draining water from a shopvac is a real PITA, plus they get right skanky after sitting wet for a while.

I try to keep one of the small versions of that they sell for oil, etc at auto supply places. About 8-10" with hoses coming off at 90 deg on each end.For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

I have a little Ridgid that gets carried in with all the demo tools.
Keep the big craftsman in the van for the big clean ups ...
and the Fein stays in the van till it's time to connect it to the chopsaw at trim time.
not sure how the newer square Ridgids work ... but the little one I have works great for "as U go" cleaning.

Try a hose, you don't get a mouthful as often.

Yeah, but it's fun making bubbles.
Bro--
That's an old one but a goody. Write it up for the mag. They'll pay ya some bucks if they haven't run the same idea before.
Not a lot, but better'n a slap inna face with a dead fish....
PS Nice little vac that Rigid. I'm jealous. Still using my old 5-gal metal-can ShopVac. You know: the one that sounds like an F-15 on afterburner...?

Jeff,
Good Tip!
Just yanked a toilet on Monday. Hadn't done one in a while so I was trying to figure a good way to get the rest of the water out. We decided to flip it and pour into the bathtub right next to the stool.
Unfortunately, when we turned it upright again, water came out the trap and onto the floor. We used the shopvac to cleanup that spill.
But I like your Idea a whole lot better.
Thanks.

I had to use a coffee cup and a bucket. The homeowner had just bought a very expensive craftsman vac, and I sure as heck wasn't going to use mine (wasn't my job--just a helper). HO did have a good idea, though. I wrapped the toilet in two contractor garbage bags and carried it outside. Wish I had been so lucky with the wax.
my wife has some fancy sponges in the tub i just use those and put them back when im done, no sense messing up my shop vac.
