Mom just spilled a little nail polish on the bathroom counter, marble I assume sealed? She was using nail polish remover on it when I walked in and may have taken the seal off?
I saw an article in TOH last month about removing stains from porous stones with poultice and a chemical, will this work and what chemical to mix with it?
any other advice would be appreciated thanks 😉
Merry Christmas

Acetone would be the preferred solvent for nail polish. The cheapest way to buy small quantities of acetone is in - uh - nail polish remover.
was hoping that was the answer, what about the sealer, I assume the acetone will remove the sealer, can I reseal the entire top with out having to some how remove the sealer from the un-affected spots?
Sorry, can't help with the sealer.
CAG, Merry Christmas.
Should have just apply nail polish(clear?) to the rest of the counter and you'll get an even shiny look. :)
How does the counter look now? Did the nail polish soak into the counter or did it get wiped off from the surface? Can you see the spot where the nail polish was removed? If the spot looks dull then you've moved the sealer. Depending on the kind of sealer used you can probably touch up with similar kind of sealer but most likely the shine may not be exactly the same. Should be close though.
The poultice and chemical trick is used to draw the stain out from the stone. E.g. peroxide for red wine stain etc. and in your case it is as Uncle said acetone. Peroxide is worse because it's acidic and it etches the marble. Acetone is an organic solvent so it may just take off some of the sealer.
