I have a customer who needs replacement windows. the old ones are single hung aluminum. the house is wood frame with brick veneer. the windows are nailed through a flange to the wood frame , and bricked up to on outside. the inside is sheetrocked or wood trim up to window , covering about 3/4″.
I need to remove the old window to install new ones because the community association will not allow a change in the look of the reveal around window. I cannot just remove old sash from frame and put new unit in and wrap the outside.
I have thought of using sawzall to cut flange from the outside, then slide window out to outside., but I hope someone has a better idea.
any help is appreciated.

Bill,
Is the window flush mounted to the wall or does it have a brick molding attached?
If you can see the flange from outside can you get at it with a small 4 to 4 1/2" angle grinder with a cutting wheel?
If you use a sawzall, you can get heavier blades that are made for cutting soft metals that will also do a number on the frame as well as the flange.
Some aluminium windows have corner inserts to hold them together nice and square. Once you cut through them the pieces should be able to be bent enough for you to get at both sides as needed.
Regardless of which way you go, be careful and take your time. You will end up doing some repairs on the inside, this is unavoidable but taking your time will reduce the amount of repair required.

*gabe, thanks for reply. I did double post, so I got answers both locations.these are mounted to frame wall, behind the brick.I can not see the flangeeverywhere, but I can get to it and start my cut, and hope blade will follow if I take my time.
