I need to gut a bathroom that has 2″ mud bed walls and floor under ceramic, wire lath etc. I can’t use a sledge hammer so I guess cutting with something and removing is the only way. Anyone have good advice in terms of saws or techniques that work well?
Thanks

How about a small electric jackhammer? I forget the make, but i used one with a chisel tip on it. It worked well. I think you can also get chisel attachement for air compressor.
I know bosch makes one, a full size jackhammer that runs on 110 current. They are yellow and say brute. I think makita also makes one. You can rent them at any rental place, HD, Lowes, nations rent, etc. I rented one for a half day, I think it was $60 after the tax and damage insurance, etc.
I think he is actually refering to a demolition hammer, in between a hammer drill and a jack hammer. Rental places should have one, but go for the Hilti over the Bosch if they have one. It will be less impact on the arms.
The Brute is too big to use in a small room like that and definitely too big to use on walls.Get a demo hammer. I have a Makita. lemmee run out and see the model #HR3851http://www.toolking.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10318I only gave foursomewthing for it a year ago, so shop the price around.

If you can deal with a bunch of water and mess, an electric wet cutting diamond saw could turn this into manageable sized chunks. Following the grout lines will cut easier and put less wear on the blade. Then pry the pieces out with a flat bar....

You can get a dry cut diamond blade for a circular saw, or get a diamond blade and a cheap 7' or 9" angle grinder at Harbor Freight.
