I’m trying to eliminate a leak around the drain of a bathtub, and have been unable to remove the basket from the drain. (I’m guessing the basket hasn’t been moved since the tub was first installed, about 1863.) The basket wrench just bends the cross bars, and heating the basket hasn’t helped.
What are my options here? Is there a trick to removing the basket? If I can’t, should I simply try to solder the leak from underneath? (The drain is cast iron.) Do ya’ll have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Probably have to cut it out. A dremel with a cutting wheel works well.
*If cross bars are not bent beyond hope, try using a couple of large screwdrivers, blade down, spread out and against the crossbars. While pushing down and twisting at the same time. If you have access to the under side, via a basement and bottom of tub/drain is exposed try spraying some liquid wrench around the the basket as well as inside the tub/drain lip. Let this sit a while, and always try as my Grandfather used to tell me " Tighten it up a bit first" try breaking the seal in the direction of tightening, ever so slightly, then back it out. A pair of needle nose or lineman pliers have helped me out in these situations before as well.
