Maybe it's time for new siding.

Thanks, Gabe.
I'll give it a shot this weekend and let you know how it goes.

I'll probably need more than luck, but that's a start!

Yeah, I would like to tear it down and restore it back to stucco. Won't happen this year...
*Hi Tom,After you have removed the siding and are ready to re-install, you may want to do the following first.Pre drill 1/4" holes along the bottom of the siding about every 16 to 24 inches. Place these holes so that a nail or better yet, a screw will catch the return lip at the back of the siding bottom and the starter strip at the same time. That way when it's all nailed on, you just insert plastic plugs to cover the holes.Gabe

Now, that is one good idea. It should work just fine. The sheet won't be fastened at the top, of course, but that won't be hard to live with.
Man. I hate trying to do anything with metal siding. The only thing worse is that horrible double-wall vinyl.

Relative to another posting I had about rotted sole plates an estimator for a local construction services firm asked me to remove the bottom piece of siding so they could inspect and estimate (if repair is needed). The siding is about 30 yrs old (in case that matters). I have never seen how aluminum siding is attached to the house. Any suggestions?
*Hi Tom,It's not that different than vinyl. There is usually a starter strip on the bottom that the bottom of the siding hooks into and the top is nailed. The next layer's bottom snaps into the first layer's top. You should be able to use a flat bar and slip it under the starter strip and pry it away.Gabe
