I have an old home , ca 1920s with the original, extra length tub. I cannot afford to redo the bathroon so I don’t dare remove/ replace the tub. I can’t stand the noise and the feeling of the tub overlays so I was wondering what options I have to replace the finish. I don’t think there is much enamel left on the inside of the tub since it has no luster and grabs the dirt.
please give me some advice on my options.

I'd suggest that you look in your local yellow pages for "Tub, Tile, and Appliance Refinishing" or "Bathtubs & Sinks-Repairing & Refinishing." When you find someone, ask to see their previous work and check their references.
Good luck!

You might be able to polish it up with the compounds and buffers that auto body shops use. I've never heard of anyone doing that, though.
