rental is the same as store hours....
rent after 6 pm and it's a 4hr rental... If it's returned Sat morn..

At our HD it takes 56 hours to check it out and then return it. Their rental office is completely incompetent. Plan on waiting in line after the first time tile saw renters, rug scrubbers, drain snakers... What ever the drive - go to a real rental yard - one that knows you want to get a job finished. HD doesn't have a clue.
my favorite rental place owner retired ... nothing to do with HD .... couldn't find anyone in the family that wanted to run the business ...
Used to drive way outta the way to rent there ... everywhere else sucked.
Now ... HD isn't any better ... or worse ... and they're always close.
Rent from them now more often than anywhere else.
not hard to do if ya know what ya need.
and I do think they're open on Sat's ...

Would be foolish for HD not to be open on the weekend (both days) to get the rental bucks from the DIY's.
I rent from HD, Nations Rent, my local aluminum and vinyl supplier, or anyone else who has what I need when I need it.
HD's 24 Hr rental is also better than the so-called true rental yards because of their 24 hr policy. Several times that I have rented from the yard I have had to pay an extra days rent because I could not get the item back to the yard by their 4 or 5pm closing.
HD can be a pain in the butt, but their rental system is not bad. At our stores, the rental is open the same hours as the store. Lowes is similar. You might be pleasantly surprised on this one.

I've rented from a coupla different HD's in my area ... who ever is closest.
probably 4 or 5 different stores ...
I'd say from what I've seen ... their rental operations are a worlds different than the mass of confusion in that box attached to the other side ...
Even had occasion a coupla weeks ago to rent their flatbed truck ...
decided on a big rubbermaid storage shed for the front porch ...
of course ... rubbermaid boxed it into a 5X7X1 box ... no way it'd fit into the box ... too big ... or on the racks ... too small ... and my Dad's pick up was across town ...
$20 later ... got it home and back.
after driving their rental with the drop down sides and gate ....
I thot ...
well that'd be a useful little truck to have around ...

Our HD also has 1/2 day rentals, 4 hours I think, and they are open sat/sun. Get it by 8am, return before 12, very cheap. I have actually been pretty pleased with the HD rentals I have used.
Go in and ask for special consideration, the manager might be flexible in order to land you as a potential return customer. We've found the common business sense of HD staff to vary enormously. Sometimes you get lucky.
We recently went in to rent something and they refused to take their usual security deposit info because we were 'Preferred Customers' (having rented somethin-or-other maybe 6 times in the past year).
We simply can't decide if 'Preferred Customer' status at HD is a compliment or insult.
I hear you on the "preferred customer" insult; kinda like walking into a bar and having your favorite drink poured and waiting for you by the time you get to your favorite stool. Just how much time am I spending here?
everything went fine. did not like the blades but could not afford a diamond. But HD was totally different from the store idoits
I've used the HD rental center a few times. As a DIY'er I can tell you that I was very impressed. And I could return the item on a Sunday which saved me a few bucks vs. renting from the normal rental outfit.

As pointed out in another thread, simply buy the item, use it, and then return it, lying thru your teeth and saying it's defective. No need to deal with the rental counter.
some tools mfg's give an uncoditional 30 day return polocy..

I have rented a couple of times and always been treated fairly -- wait time has been the ususal and they have been helpful -- might even be a couple of bucks cheaper
some times being the only act available I've used them...
no complints ...sortta...
learn their system and it's to yur advntage...

But I have morals
Agree. In my book that's cheap.
I needed a edging floor sander two days ago, not a floor buffer size, and my local Lowes/Nations Rent was out. He called a competing rental place on the next block, they were out too. I called HD and a couple of other places ... no luck. Lowes kid says ... our other store on the far side of town has one. I'll give you a 20% discount if you want to drive there and get it, and you can bring it back here. Worked for me!

I sure ain't sayin' I'd do it... just read the 'coming soon to a HD near you' thread and realize that HD customers are paying for that, like it or not.
I hear ya. I have been in the returns line behind some of these jokers returning tools that they have obviously beat the shid out of for a month or so and then came in to return. Gets me a little hot under the collar that they even take the stuff back.
AFAIK they are all open on weekends. Never had a problem with their rentals, I even fried one of their electric jack hammers and they gave me a new one and gave me a discount.
I rent occasionally from them...only a few bad experiences, mostly due to computer problems(like I can only give you one bit with a SDS Max, the COMPUTER won't let me give you two, or rent to an extra..."here let me see that computer, I'll fix her")
I rented a trencher on New Years eve 2 yeras ago, 0 degrees outside, took it back after a 30' trench, had some dirt on it....girl said"it's dirty, I HAVE to charge you a $50 cleaning fee"....I said it's 0 degrees, it will freeze if I tried to hose it off...."too bad" she says.
I was an hour early for the 4 hour rental...so I said "'ll be right back"
Took it 1/2 mile down the road to the hose it car wash, and entombed it in a block of ice for $1.25. Took it back clean, sort of any way, then looked her straight in the eye and said "be careful of what you ask for" Idiots in orange smocks.
