I just moved into a 40 year old house and noticed that the floor in the kitchen has a springy feel near the sink. The 2 I 2 foot area is covered with sheet flooring and some of the elevation is about an inch. I assume that this occurred due to some water damage to the sub flooring. I need input on how to repair this problem.
I was going to cut multiple openings in the sheet flooring and using construction screws to pull the plywood down and then re gluing the floor covering down.
Is this approach OK or would you do something else.

I'd rip it out, and patch new subfloor in, Ed. I've never had very good luck "repairing" sub floor, even with construction adhesive and ring shank nails or screws.
The stuff obviously got wet, and buckled. Do it right.
*Hey Ed,Like Scooter sez........I agree. You probably have more rot down there than you know. The symptoms are problematic of big damage. Or not. It's best to take a look under the house to see what's going on. If the subfloor is in good shape, then just screwing it down may be the way to go. If it's really rotten, then you'll have to replace it. If it's swollen because of water, then you'll have to replace it.Check it out.Ed.
*Thanks. I'll check in the crawl space for subfloor condition. I plan to screw down the subfloor if its ok. We'll just replace the sheet flooring when done.Thanks.Ed
*Ed, it sounds like you may have particle board under there, instead of plywood. Your subfloor is probably plywood or diagonal 1 x , with particleboard underlayment on top. No screw's gonna fix that stuff. The good thing is, it's easy to remove when it's all swelled up.Good luck...
