Please excuse a beginner! We have an 18-year-old solar house with two 10×10 towers (about 8 ft high) above the bedrooms. Those towers have flat roofs.
Some of our bedroom walls/ceiling were damaged by water leaking in this winter. (This was NOT gallons of water. Just a fairly steady dripping during rains and when snow melted. It came through the bedroom ceiling at about a drop every 15 seconds.)
The plaster covering in our bedrooms has cracked and developed some brown water spots. Also, some wood framing in the towers has been stained dark brown.
Need to know if this is a safety issue, or just appearance issue. Can we get the roof repaired, perform cosmetic repairs ourselves, and not worry about structural damage? Or do we need to have the drywall replaced by a professional?
We don’t use the towers as living or storage space. Just go up there twice a year to open or close a vent.
Thanks!
