repairing hair line cracks in plaster
The boys got a little over zealous when removing a chimney on a remodel. Now the nieghbor has some hairline cracks in her wall. These are masonry townhouse residences built around 1900 with 2X10 joists set into pockets and plaster over 3 withes of a brick party wall. I want to do a good repair for her and was wondering if you all had some advice. The plaster still seems to be bonded pretty good – at least in my experience
other than the cracks I would not touch it.

Get yourself an old toothbrush , some plaster mix, a spray bottle.
First wet the area of the crack brush it out with the tooth brush , then mix a very stiff plaster mix and using the tooth brush work it into the crack. Let it stand until almost set then wipe up any excess material that is off to the side of the cracks with a damp rag.
Be gentle and be careful wiping the patch material so that you don't "crater" the crack.
An old plaster master taught me this trick yrs. ago.
That sounds exactly right!
