True replacement windows are installed from the inside. That being said, ask for Harvey's installation guide.
I can see advantages to installing from the outside, you don't disturb the interior molding, just never seen it done.
Thank You. Will Harvey give the guide to a homeowner?
They should or look it up online.
I went to the Harvey Web site and also Googled it. No luck. Can you help?
If you contact them at there web site you should be able to get an answer. The web site also lists an 800 number. This is the best I can do.
Thank you. I'll give them a call.
For got to mention, if they are double hung, they could be installed from the outside. The problem is if your windows are the old stile with weights in a pocket, controling the windows, you need to have these weights removed an the pocket filled with insulation. They would have a hard time doing this from the outside.
If you are replacing a picture or fixed window, then it is not possible to do from the outside.
This all being said, I have replaced in excess of 1000 windows and believe it is proper to install replacement windows from the inside.
I just spoke to a service rep at Harvey. He said they could be done from either the inside or outside as far as Harvey is concerned. Rotten sill or exterior trim might be a good reason to install from the outside. I've done exterior trim and sill extension standing on a ladder and it ain't much fun. I'm with you on doing it from the inside.
Thanks again.
Depends on the original window. We often replace from the outside if the exterior trim is getting wrapped. Wrap exreior first then install window, less exposed nails and smaller caulk joints.
